I had enabled the ‘Exclude files from being cached’ policy (in an attempt to save some bandwidth and local disk space) and included ‘*.tmp’ files among others. It turned out that I should learn to read policy setting descriptions more carefully. All I had to do then was track down the policy setting that was causing the issue. I applied the new gpo to a test computer in a new OU and it worked without a problem (I should have done this much earlier).

As these laptops need to be used away from the network the M drive and desktop folder have offline files enabled (this is working fine and syncing correctly). I have folder redirection enabled on the ‘Documents’ folder pointing to their homedrive (\\server\username$ to M:\).

I have this problem with several new windows 7 pro 32bit laptops on the network connected to a 2003 server. If I run word as the network administrator the error still occurs.I have seen this question (or similar) on a few forums but I haven’t come across an answer that works in my situation so here goes… There appear to be no duplicate IP addresses for workstations. I have tried reconnecting the workstation to the domain and the error still occurs. I have tried logging off and on windows and the error still occurs. We have one dropbox on a workstation which syncs only on that workstation to a server/network directory (rather than on the workstation itself) - I tried pausing syncing and the error still occurs. I have tried temporarily disabling AVG on the workstation and server, and the error still occurs. I have tried the word issue whilst the workstation is logged in as the network administrator - and the error still occurs.
In attributes these folders show up as a grey tick - but as far as I am aware this is normal.
